it's rorschach from alan moore's watchmen.
the whole thing started as a doodle with a mech pencil on cheap copier paper, was then taken to photoshop to give it a quick and dirty color job. i wanted to achieve a very muted, low-saturation look to the colors. if i find time, there will be a rework with a bit more texture and a slightly more coherent palette.
so, what is going on in his head? my guess is that he's thinking of truman or pondering in some other nostalgia.
full view highly recommended, as the preview is only a small cut-out.
ah, geki~ you simply always know where to put the shades and highlights, I envy you
is there any reason you chose this rather unconventional shape for the picture?
with the colors I have to say I'd have prefered overall darker shades, especially the purple would work better with that.
thank you.
i am sorry, but i guess this whole lighting thing has become so much second nature to me - talking about the process and the why-this-why-thats probably wont be very enlightening. when you manage another visit down here and tell me about it before you are back at home, i am sure i can demonstrate it to you, though.
the idea for this kind of vignette came from looking through mucha's documents decoratifs. it lends the whole image a nice air of oldschool and fits well with the composition. for a rework, i could actually try pushing it in a more art nouveau direction, that would be cool, eh?
the purple was a tough one... his trousers are indeed purple but keeping them the only purple element would totally throw the balance off. a better organized palette kept me from a lot of this trouble x_x°

thanks a lot, and thanks for the fav, too. much appreciated!

now, it would really be interesting to see how spidey would react to rorschach in his city.
(i just noticed that youre about my age and from germany, too - so i guess we refer to the same airing of the series in our younger days)
